Profile and history of the department

At all faculties of the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, in all bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, the department teaches the courses Organic Chemistry A and B, or I and II, including laboratory exercises, and participates in teaching Toxicology (for more detailed information on teaching activities, see Studies). In bachelor’s degree programs, it teaches Structural Analysis, Structure and Reactivity of Organic Compounds, and Fundamentals of Medicinal Chemistry; in master’s degree programs, it also teaches Organic Synthesis, Retrosynthesis, Mechanisms of Organic Reactions, Quantum Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Physical Organic Chemistry, Fundamentals of Supramolecular Chemistry, Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds, Stereoselective Syntheses, Transition Metals in Organic Synthesis, Bioorganic Chemistry, Toxicology for Chemists, Laboratory Techniques, Molecular Calculations and Visualization, and  Organic Chemistry of Selected Elements.

Students typically conduct their departmental laboratory work and thesis research in the institute’s research laboratories, where they tackle tasks within the scope of its scientific and research focus.
